In a recent article I read it discussed different types of Brands. This can be found in Pharmaceutical Executive, June 2009. The author is Vince Parry. I thought it interesting in that they were discussing this in the context of pharmaceuticals, but could be applied to online businesses as well. Too many times, we try to copy what is already out there, and the real value is finding that unmet niche. Even better, creating our own niche to attract new customers and expand on a current market trend. For example, developing a website that sells Ringtones. There are 1000′s of sites that are dedicated to this category. So how would you differentiate yourself and rise to the top. I have been impressed with the Toyota line of cars even though they took a beating on their safety with the recalls that took place this past year. I own a 2009 Toyota Camry and have had Camry’s in the past and have always been pleased with the performance and quality of Toyota. My wife and I are in the market to upgrade our Honda Odyssey. With three kids under the age of 12 the mini-van still fits our life style and needs as we are shuffling kids between school and soccer practice. We have been reading about some of the great reports on the new Toyota mini-van and went to take a look to see how it compared to our existing vehicle. In our area there are several Car Dealers that carry the Toyota brand so we chose one that was closer to our home that had been recommended by neighbors. Once we got to the dealers showroom the experience was quite pleasant and the salespeople were not overly aggressive and were eager to actually listen to what we needed and not what they wanted to sell us. As we took the car for a test drive we piled everyone into the van and went out on the road.
We have been watching the Toyota family videos for the new Sienna and what my wife and I have seen has been very impressive. Toyota’s social media campaign is a wonderful idea by creating a family that you can follow and relate to about issues that a family will encounter. They are also trying to recreate the image of the minivan to make it more appealing to those that would not normally drive a minivan and have opted for the SUV. We will make our decision this fall once the 2011 models are released and we are able to take our test drive to compare the models.
